Since I was a small child, I have always had a fascination with building things. After graduating high school, I went directly into the steel manufacturing field as a “grunt” worker in 1987. Starting at the bottom, I learned all aspects of metal fabrication from using an iron worker to running milling machines and lathes.
In the early 1990’s, computer controlled machines were finally an affordable option to achieve faster ways to increase production. Being at the right place at the right time, I was able to learn how to use old manual machines as well as the latest state of the art technology in CNC equipment at that time.
It was my mission to learn all I could about this new technology, and I did. I ran CNC punches, press breaks and lasers. In the mid-1990’s, my first office job was as an offline programmer for this equipment.
As things progressed, the company I worked for would not invest in CNC equipment for the machine shop. Instead, they subcontracted machine work to vendors with CNC equipment.
Being able to run a mill and lathe as well as knowing the CNC G-code language, I went into my own part-time business doing CNC machine work. I bought an old CNC milling machine, retrofitted it with the state of the art CNC controller and I was off to a running start. Price Design & Engineering was born in my garage in January 1999.
For the next 6 years, I worked on weekends and at night doing machine work. In 2005, I decided to quit my job and go full time with Price Design & Engineering. In 2009, I moved out of my garage and into a machine shop in Oakdale, CA that was owned by a friend. In 2011, I bought that business and was finally a full-fledged machine shop business.
The original company that hired me after graduating high school was my main customer for machine work and a new generation of family was at the helm. When they decided that they no longer need my services in 2012, I decided to venture into the firearms manufacturing field.
I first went through the extended process of getting my Federal Firearms Manufacturing License and then my Class 2 NFA Manufacturing License.
Shooting and hunting have always been my hobbies. In 2012, when I purchased a Dueling tree from a big box outdoor store that was well-rated for rifles, it broke within 30 shots. To say the least, I was not very happy. This spurred me on to designing and creating my own quality targets. This was the birth of Price Design & Engineering as it now exists.
